Mead: taking the role of the other
In Sociology class the Professor talked about Mead’s Philosophy of taking the role of the other, in other words, putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. So many problems in life are caused because of misunderstandings, if people were able to live more by this philosophy and be open to other perspectives, many conflicts could be avoided.
Things often are not black and white and many times when people argue, neither party is necessarily wrong. My dad once told me that he does not like to argue with people because it is rarely effective. When people argue, often they are closed minded and even if you win the argument, they will still disagree. Instead of arguing all the time, why not try listening? We may begin to see that there is much truth beyond what we already know.
