“ For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the dividing assunder of soul and spirit and the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ”

PH34R HIS WRATH

Because Jesus is love.

Isn’t there just a touch of irony between the wack-job christian sign in the foreground and the sign for the business it’s in front of?  I mean, mass murder has been the christian enterprise since the brought the “peace of the lord” to the pagans of Europe at the point of a sword, beginning around the 6th century.

“Peace of the lord at the point of a sword”… it’s so catchy, and yet I doubt they thought of it.

I must confess, I’m glad that Jesus loves everybody. Because I really, really don’t.

songs of praise into the lion's den

shiningdefiance:

it has always baffled me,
the idea of paul and silas singing hymns
in prison.

the story is all there in acts sixteen,
paul and silas thrown into jail,
whipped, feet in stocks,
in the inner prison, under close watch.

they are there in the middle of the night.
i imagine them cold, hurting, bruised,
unable to sleep for discomfort,
hungry, sitting in their own waste.

they should have been miserable
but they were singing.

in the midst of darkness and discomfort,
they are sitting together and singing,
raising songs of praise to their God,
the one who got them into this mess in the first place.

they are there praying and singing,
paul and silas, men who turned the world upside down,
seeing, through the darkness, God’s hand at work.

they are not the only ones.

martyrs burned, whipped, killed.
christians thrown to the lions.
murdered for entertainment.

marching to their deaths,
walking towards torture,
dragged down dusty streets,
spat on, scorned, despised by all men,

singing songs of praise into the lion’s den.

how much more should we,
suffering no such trials,
having every physical comfort,
sing songs of praise to our God?

in the midst of what we call troubles.

in the midst of the messes we make for ourselves.

in the midst of whatever persecution we face
(because Christ tells us we will,
and no servant is above his Master)

how much more should we
be singing songs of praise
into our own lion’s dens?
